Cal Porter (Fredrick Weller) is describing the view from his apartment on Central Park West to Katherine Gerard (Tyne Daley).  Katherine is the mother of Cal’s former partner who died of aids over twenty years ago.

Cal has a husband Will Ogden (Bobby Steggert) and a son Bud Ogden-Porter (Grayson Taylor).

The story revolves around Katherine and Cal’s feelings for her son past and present. The story tells what has happen in their lives during those periods.

Katherine has gotten in touch with Cal because he sent her, her sons diary and wants to return it.  Neither wants to read or keep it.

Cal has gone on with his life and reflects on the attitudes towards gays and how it has changed.

Katherine still has not come to accept who her son was. She tells him things about herself he did not know.

This is a touching story of accepting people for who they are, whether it’s your choice or not.

You have to see the show to find out if she does.  Mothers and sons is a well written show.

Tyne Daley is mesmerizing in the role. Her portrayal of a tormented mother not willing to accept the fact her son was gay is excellent.
