Old Hats

Old Hats is playing at the Signature Theatre located at 480 West 42nd Street.  It runs two hours with one intermission. The show closes on March 6, 2016.

Old hats premiered at the Signature Theatre in 2013.

Bill Irwin won a Tony Award for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf in 2005.

Clown One (Bill Irwin) and Clown Two (David Shiner) are moving from the elements that are appearing from behind them.   Lighting and other forces of nature are there.  All of a sudden it stops.  Each one has a remote control with antennas on them and each one is trying to turn it back on and of course it shuts off.  They end up having a fight with the remote control.  While they are fighting Shaina Taub is walking across the aisle talking on her phone, the others behind her to each other. They sit on the left side of the stage in front of the instruments they will play.  Shaina sits down in front of the piano.  She tells clown one she will start playing when she is finished talking on her cell phone.
The show alternates between the clowns and Shaina.  The songs she sings are different. You think she is going to say one thing but she says something else.

For each act there is a billboard to the right of the stage that tells the name of the act.

This is a hilarious show. It’s is not a play but a vaudeville acts. No words are said. They do hat tricks, magic act and other silly things.

Bill Irwin and David Shiner movements are amazing. They make it look so graceful.  Both are so flexible,  as if they were made of rubber.

This is an entertaining show.  Don’t miss it.
